Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay

R4,459.00 incl. VAT

A tight, mineral wine with classic Hamilton Russell Vineyards length and complexity. Prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality. An elegant, yet textured and intense wine with a strong personality of both place and vintage.

The 2023 vintage was barrel-fermented and aged for 9 months in 100% French oak barrels. The use of both new and seasoned oak (24% first fill, 32% second fill, 24% third fill, and 20% older oak) helps to integrate oak flavors subtly while maintaining the wine’s fresh and fruity character. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation, contributing to its creamy texture.

Description

Hamilton Russell Vineyards– one of the most southerly wine estates in Africa and one of the closest to the sea– pioneered viticulture and winemaking in the beautiful, cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. The Estate specialises in producing highly individual, terroir driven Pinot noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as among the finest in the New World, while bearing, at times, an uncanny resemblance to classic Pinot noir and Chardonnay from the Old World.
